Mads Würtz Schmidt showed great shape once again as he finished third in the French one-day race Boucles de l’Aulne on Sunday.

“I’m really happy with this podium place”, Wurtz Schmidt said. “It was a very hectic race and hard right from the beginning. A lot of people were suffering already on the first climb but I had really good legs today.”

The 30-year-old Dane was always attentive near the front and when a big group started to drift away, he was quick to bridge across and make sure the team was present.

“When we started on the short local laps, I could sense our group was about to split up and I made sure to be ready for when it did. We got away in a small group and I knew right away we would stay away if we just worked well together. I felt I was on a good day, so I tried a few times to get away on my own on the last lap but it wasn’t to be, so I had to wait for the sprint.”

Ultimately, Axel Zingle (Cofidis) took the win, while Würtz Schmidt had to settle for third place. This is Israel – Premier Tech’s second podium spot this weekend after Corbin Strong finished second in Saturday’s Tour du Finistère.

“Of course, it’s a shame we didn’t win this weekend but I think we can be happy with second and third place. Personally, I’m really happy to be able to put my mark on these two races and show that I’m back in the fun part of the races again”, Würtz Schmidt concluded.
