Throughout this week, we are looking back and celebrating seven magical ISN moments from the 2021 season, presented by Vini Fantini.

The first one is Mads Würtz Schmidt’s victory on stage 6 of Tirreno-Adriatico. The Dane had marked this stage beforehand and implemented an impressive fuel strategy prior and during the race with our Maurten products. He was very eager to make the early breakaway and after multiple attempts at the beginning of the day, he finally succeeded to get up the road in a small group.

Against the odds, the breakaway managed to keep the peloton at bay, leaving the escapees to fight for the win. Feeling comfortable with the situation and very confident with his own shape, Würtz Schmidt told his sports director, Cherie Pridham, already with seven kilometers to go, that he would win this stage in a sprint. And he was right.

Celebrating with his arms in the air and a big roar, Würtz Schmidt outsprinted his breakaway companions to take his first win in several years.

Mads Würtz Schmidt: “When I think back to this day, it’s mostly about how I rode that final and how confident I was that I would win. To do that last lap in Lido di Fermo, knowing that we would ride for the victory, while being fully aware of what I should do to win, that was amazing. And when we got out of that last corner, I already knew that I would win. That’s what really stands out to me, looking back at that stage. I could feel that my winner instinct was back and it was just awesome to ride the final, knowing that I could win.”

Tomorrow, we will present another magical ISN moment from this year. Stay tuned!
