Israeli climber Guy Niv was selected to help ISN’s leader Dan Martin in the Giro d’Italia
Martin: “He’s became a much more complete rider since the TDF last year. I am waiting to have him by my side.”
Israeli climber, Guy Niv, who made history last year by becoming the first Israeli rider to finish the Tour de France, was selected to help ISN’s leader Dan Martin in his GC quest in the Giro d’Italia, which starts in Turin on May 8th.
“We have witnessed very significant progress in his power and performance,” explained Rik Verbrugghe, the head of sports directors for team ISN, about the decision to select Niv for the lineup and the role given to him. “He earned this, and we trust him.”
The 27-year-old has impressed at the Tour of the Alps, finishing 31st overall, second only to Martin, who said:
“Guy raced well at the Tour de France in 2020, and I saw him learn and grow in confidence throughout the race. He has made a step up after that experience and will start the Giro d’Italia a much more complete rider than last year. I’m looking forward to having him by my side, and I know he is motivated to play his role in our race as a team”.
The selection also reflects the growing impact of the Israeli riders on the team, with Israeli champion, Omer Goldstein riding impressively this season.
For Guy Niv, it will be his fourth Grand Tour, more than any other Israeli. “It will be the first time that I will be part of an ISN team with GC aspirations. We are coming with full commitment to help Dan. For me, it will be a great challenge to prove I can make a difference.”
